Come ring in a special, musical, Harrison-style Christmas with the Vancouver-based swing quartet Van Django and guests, who will celebrate the season with their variety show Cool Yule. Expect a festive Christmas mix of nostalgic favourites, jazz standards, pop tunes, classical elements, and sing-alongs, plus a few surprises – all delivered in swinging gypsy jazz style. Folks of all ages are invited to this fun and festive yule-time show. Joining Van Django’s violinist Cameron Wilson, guitarist Budge Schachte, guitarist/cellist Finn Manniche and bassist Brent Gubbels are harmonica virtuoso Keith Bennett, and stellar vocalist L.J. Mounteney.
Van Django’s music is well-rooted in the gypsy jazz of 1930s Paris, France, but beyond that it’s all pure flights of dazzling fancy, driving rhythms, and boundless creativity. Their shows feature original compositions and arrangements, including humorous mash-ups that showcase their eclectic influences.
Regulars to Harrison Festival events will recognize Keith Bennett from his performances with David Sinclair, which wowed at the 2016 festival and a recent season show. As well as being a fantastic harmonica player, Keith is a great singer who can croon out some sweet Christmas ballads. LJ Mounteney brings a bluesy sensibility with her soulful voice, making for a great evening of singing and instrumentals.
This is a special Christmas Fundraising event, so there will be food! We will have Christmas baking, included in the ticket price, as well as some other goodies and surprises. Proceeds from this special evening will go towards our upcoming 40th Anniversary Festival in July 2018.
The show begins at 7:30pm with doors opening at 7:00pm. Tickets will be available online through the link below, by phone at 604.796.3664, or in person at the Ranger Station Art Gallery. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more videos and promo contests.
