Toque Flamenco is Vancouver’s most popular Flamenco band specializing in creating festive and breathtaking Flamenco shows that include music and dance. Toque Flamenco performs flamenco with passion and rhythmic precision, including spirited, fiery Gipsy Kings Rumbas, which always get the crowd dancing, as well as soulful, stirring dance pieces.
Toque Flamenco was born early in 2014 after two greatly talented musicians and one passionate dancer who had been doing Flamenco for years on their own meet each other with a shared vision. What happened next was the perfect blending of each other’s talents, tons of inspiration, dedication and creativity, which altogether creates astounding shows every single time. The second dancer, Karito Espí, joined Toque Flamenco late in 2015 fulfilling the purpose of creating a more unique and dynamic show. Each of the band members has a long record of music/dance training and over 15 years of performance experience.
Mario, Marilú and Karito have both Mexican and Spanish heritage, while Peter Mole was born in Montreal and attended McGill University where he studied classical guitar. Each of the artists has been privileged enough to train with some of the best Flamenco artists from Spain, such as dancers Mercedes Ruiz, Concha Jareño and Cristina Benitez, guitarists Juan Moneo, Diego de Morao and Carlos Heredia, and singers Jose Barrul, Paco “Gasolina el Chico” and “El Tequila de Jerez”. In Vancouver, they have collaborated and shared the stage with great artists such as Lucas Ortega, Cristina Benitez and “El Tequila de Jerez”.
Toque Flamenco performs regularly around Vancouver. Peter Mole, the lead guitarist, has been holding successful tri-weekly Flamenco nights at the Kino Café for over 20 years. For the past 3 years, Toque Flamenco has been the main featured band at the The Kino. Other recent performances include the Victoria Flamenco Festival (headliners), the Richmond World Music Festival, the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, Vancouver World Music Festival, Jazz Vespers and the Kaleidoscope and European Festivals.
