About Event
In late 2016, Scott Smith started a monthly event called Adventures in Pedal Steel as a way to explore different styles of steel guitar playing. Every month at the venue The Heatley in Vancouver Scott put on a different show based around the repertoire of a particular steel guitarist. The first show featured the work of Buck Owen's steel guitarist Tom Brumley and over the next few years almost 20 different shows (with completely different repertoire every time) happened exploring the work of steel guitarist like Ralph Mooney, Daniel Lanois, Ben Keith, Don Helms, Greg Leisz, Jerry Garcia, Buddy Emmons, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Jimmy Day, Bobby Black, Pete Drake and Buddy Cage. These Tuesday night shows consistently packed the Heatley and became a popular meeting place for the Vancouver country. bluegrass and jazz musicians.

For this brunch show at Tractrogrease Scott will be presenting a history of the steel guitar from it’s Hawaiian origins to the early pioneers of the dobro and lap steel in the 30’s and 40’s, progressing to the pedal steel guitar’s heyday in the 1960’s and 70’s and finishing with a look at the steel guitar innovators of this century.Event Details
